Wayne Goosen
From developer to DevOps to Platform Engineer. I've seen both sides of the fence—now I work to remove it.
From Writing Code to Architecting Platforms
I started my career as a software developer—5 years building full-stack applications, then backend systems processing high-volume transactions. That foundation taught me what developers actually need: fast feedback loops, reliable deployments, and infrastructure that stays out of the way.
Now I lead Internal Developer Platform initiatives. I design and maintain Azure platforms running Kubernetes, provision infrastructure with Terraform, and create pipeline templates and shared Helm charts that teams can actually reuse. The goal is always the same: let developers ship applications in minutes, not days.
I've seen what happens when platform teams become gatekeepers instead of enablers. My approach is different—build Golden Paths that make the right way the easy way, and give teams the self-service capabilities to move independently.
Software Developer
Full-stack development at Derivco—building back-office web applications for online operators using ASP.NET, JavaScript, and MS SQL Server.
Senior Developer
Backend development on large-scale Web APIs processing transactions for multiple external operators. Worked extensively with ASP.NET Core and high-availability systems.
DevOps Engineer
Leading Internal Developer Platform and Portal development. Managing Azure infrastructure with AKS and Terraform. Creating shared pipeline templates and Helm charts to accelerate delivery.
Platform Engineer
Helping enterprises design and implement Golden Paths—standardized, self-service platforms that let teams deploy independently without compromising on governance.

Platform Engineering Philosophy
Golden Paths Over Gatekeeping
Enable developers with paved roads, not approval queues. The best platform is one teams actually want to use.
Product Mindset
Treat the platform as a product with developers as customers. Iterate based on feedback, not assumptions.
Automate the Toil
If you do it twice, script it. If you script it twice, productize it. Humans should solve problems, not push buttons.
Brutally Honest Assessments
I'll tell you what's broken, not what you want to hear. Real progress starts with real talk.
The Human Side
Based in Switzerland. Originally from South Africa, where I studied Computer Science (Honours) at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. I work remotely with teams across different time zones.
I write about DevOps and platform engineering on my blog—sharing lessons learned, practical guides, and opinions on where the industry is heading. I believe in learning in public and giving back to the community that helped me grow.
When I'm not writing Terraform or debugging pipelines, you'll find me exploring new tools or enjoying the Swiss outdoors.
